One year goes by pretty fast.  My #3 Grandboy turned one last week.  He is very unique.  A real blast to be around.  His two older brothers at their first birthday didn’t want anything to do with the birthday cake.    Not this one.  He loved it.

Last week my travels in Nevada I saw tons of photo opportunities.  Carrying my D-800 and two lenses I watched for those fun shots.  I am always drawn to old vehicles.

I mentioned in a previous post my fire ant experience at the dunes near Winnemucca, .  This photograph is what I sacrificed a nights sleep for.  Not sure it was worth it.

Today I flew into Reno Nevada then drove up to Winnemucca, Nevada.  Just west of town is some sand dunes that I knew would be ready for me to get some PIC’s.  Today I wanted to test the D-800 more.  Get the details if you will.  I am thrilled with the resolution of the D-800.  It’s been a while since I have had a crazy story to tell while photographing.  With the dunes covered with wind created designs I thought of a great idea.  Take my shoes off and walk across the dunes and photograph bare footprints in the sand.  It turned out ok.  I put my shoes back on without  socks.  I figured no big deal.  Almost immediately something started to sting my right foot.  I looked down and noticed a ton of fire ants all over the place.  Ripping my shoe off I found ants all over my right foot.  My foot has been in quite a bit of pain all night.  Oh well.  It was fun getting the shot!

Still traveling.

Today I am in New Castle Wyoming.  Another new store ready to open.  Not far from New Castle is Mount Rushmore.  I have never seen this monument before.   So off we went after our work was done.  Wow.  What a site.  It’s one of those sites that everyone in the world either has a perfect post card or their own photograph.   Their photograph is nearly or exactly the same as everyone else that has visited the monument.  Not too many unique ways to present the monument in a different perspective.  So I played a little in post.

Put a few miles on the rental car yesterday working.  A few more today playing.  I had to get to the Denver United States Mint.  It was closed.  Close by was a church that was screaming to get photographed.  I went inside and found it was being used.  In the gardens of the church is a pretty nifty statue that with a little sun flare made for a nifty impact.

Across the street from the church was a mural that I would rank in the top of all that I have photographed.  As usual I run to the murals if they are worthy of capturing in pixels.

In my effort to get out and enjoy the day I traveled to Colorado Springs and drove the Garden of the Gods loop.  It’s not southern Utah but it was nice.
